TDEE(Total Daily Energy Expenditure) or Maintenance calories is an estimate of the energy(calories) your body burns on daily basis. It also denotes the number of calories you need to consume each day to maintain body weight and it’s proper functioning.
TDEE comprises of various processes, such as BMR(Basal Metabolic Rate), TEF(Thermic effect of food) and Physical activity.
1) BMR- Basal Metabolic Rate is an estimate of the energy required by your body to run all the essential metabolic processes.BMR takes around 65-70% calories of TDEE.
2) TEF- Our Body requires certain amount of energy to digest the food we consume.Thermic effect of food conspires of 15-20% energy of TDEE
3) Physical activity- Our Body needs certain amount of energy to run all the physical activities which we do knowingly or unknowingly, this consumes around 25-30% energy of your maintenance.
